Most parents these days are concerned about the effects that technology will have their children. Electronic producers are targeting their products to younger and younger audiences, so that children are more accustomed to interacting with their electronic gadgets such as phones, ipods, computers, and video games, and less likely to interact with one another. Is there a reason to be concerned about this electronic preoccupation, and can anything be done about it?

In a book by Dr. Osit entitled Generation Text, the author explains that the combination of technology interactions and immediate gratification is challenging todays teens for developing a misguided and distorted self-image, work ethic, a surprising sense of entitlement, tendencies toward aggression, and generally just underdeveloped social skills. It seems clear, then, that it behooves parents to take an interest in the amount of interaction their children are having with technology.

Recent statistics have shown that the average spends more than half of their time in play in front of some sort of screen. The end result is that they are not as connected to their families. The following are some reasons why this should raise flags in the mind of parents.

First, and most prominently, a preoccupation on technology impairs childrens social skills. Their interaction becomes one of input/output, garnered from a constant interaction with a device that responds precisely with an output to their input. But human beings dont work like this, and children need to understand that humans have many more nuances and surprises in their behaviors than machines.

Second, values can become stagnated by an overexposure to certain elements and a lack of exposure to others.

Third, children are allowed a discomfiting level of anonymity through technology, which smoothes over a childs uniqueness and self-awareness.

Dr. Osits book creates two categories in his book: access and excess. Access is the ability to interact with ideas from all over the world, to essentially have the benefit of the world in a living room. However, a lack of filtering on the content that enters a childs mind can affect the way a child develops.

Excess is a childs over access to material that is often accompanied by a sense of entitlement. Parents need to watch carefully the amount and extent of their childs involvement with technology.

In terms of instant gratification, children need to be provided a model of delayed gratification so that they dont enter adulthood with that same sense of getting what they want when they want it. This will require some parents to develop the audacity to say no to their children.

In spite of appearances, research tells that even teenagers respect and want to please their parents. Intervening in a childs access to technology need not contravene their affection for their parents. Boundaries need to be set by parents. Leave cell phones out of dinner. Turn off the television. Place computers in public spaces where their access to negative material might be lessened. Most of all, model this behavior for your children, not allowing your Blackberry to interrupt dinner.

As a chiropractor I treated many patients with lower back pain. Of course, as a chiropractor, I applied a rotary low back adjustment to help loosen the low back joints and induce normal motion to the low back joints. How To Engage Employees With Technology Based Change

When you think about the millions of dollars organizations spend each year on IT programs of work, wouldn’t it be prudent knowing that employees actually understand and most importantly embrace the reason behind the changes? There is one way of ensuring that employees and their managers have got the message and truly understand the reasons for the new system implementation. And that is the means that you communicate change.

Let’s start with reviewing how most organizations manage technology based change. If your organization’s approach to this type of change is new skills training and employee communication strategies that include stakeholder management (translated briefings), intranet and email updates then that’s not managing change, rather it is focussed on information. So what is the difference and why do we need to do anything more than provide information?

IT systems are not introduced for the sake of a new system itself, they are introduced because there are benefits to be realised from a business management perspective. This may include more information on customer profiles and identifying other products or services clients may be interested in purchasing, the chagnes might focus on back office systems such as greater information for human resources management or accounting or they may focus on the supply chain and logistics. Whatever the reason there is a business reason for change and this is what employees need to understand if the full benefits of any system implementation is going to be realised.

Let’s look at an example. This financial services organisation was introducing a new back office system. In the past employees worked in separate divisions so customers were transferred from one area to another to process their request. The new system meant that all of the customer details were now available to employees and that they would now work in teams and “own” the customer from the commencement to end of transaction. It was a complete system and work style change so before specific system training was introduced a simulated work area was established and employees were taken through the customer experience. It was important that they understood the benefits to the customer by looking at the changes through the eyes of the customer. This way we created the “Aha” moment, employees got the message better than any intranet, information session or email bulletin could have conveyed it. And when employees went into system training they clearly understood the benefits and business reasons behind the changes.

The five key things to remember when communicating technology changes.

1. Be very clear about the business reasons for the changes – who will benefit and what will those benefits be?
2. Establish why those benefits are important? What will the impact be on the organization?
3. Decide the key messages for your information strategy – what will you need to communicate, to whom and when?
4. Concurrently design an engagement strategy at key points in your project plan that will engage employees at all levels in the reason for the technology changes.
5. Remember to ensure engagement the message is not about the system itself but about the business reasons for the changes.

Finally, as change management professionals can we take the same approach to managing system changes and apply it to every new organization? The answer is clearly no because as every organization’s culture is different, so it follows that every approach to change management and employee communication must be different to maximise the investment and potential of the system changes that are implemented.

What Is Pad Printing

Pad printing is a modern printing process that can be used to quickly transfer 2-D images on to all sorts of 3-D objects. However, before getting into a description of what pad printing is, it’s important to first define a few specific elements that pad printing relies on.

First, it’s important to understand gravure printing. Gravure put simply, is a process that etches an image onto the surface of a metal plate. This places the images – in ink form – in the recesses of the metal plate, unlike relief printing (where the image is raised). By filling the recesses with ink, and leaving the raised portions of the plate dry, the image can be transferred from the plate to the substrate quickly and cleanly. Gravure can produce very fine and detailed images on short or long runs in multiple colors.
